The first listed date is 2026-01-01 and the last is 2026-12-25. 0 listed dates fall on Saturday or Sunday. This comparison includes only the entries currently stored for each year; differences can reflect coverage as well as the position of holidays. When months tie, the earliest tied month is shown. Check observed dates, make-up workdays and the receiving organization’s own schedule before turning these figures into deadlines.
Using United States federal holidays without confusing local closures
Federal holidays have a defined scope
The United States calendar on this site uses the federal holiday schedule as its reference. That is not a complete list of state holidays, school vacations, religious observances or company closures. The Office of Personnel Management publishes the federal schedule and explains its application to federal employees. A business traveler should not assume that every private workplace, state office or school follows an identical timetable simply because a date appears in that schedule.
Identify the organization responsible for the service you need. A state licensing office requires state or office information; a university visit requires the institution’s calendar; a supplier meeting requires the supplier’s confirmation. Keep those dates separate from the federal reference. This avoids describing a locally important observance as a nationwide federal closure and prevents a missing local holiday from being interpreted as a guarantee that an appointment is available.
Check the observed date, including at year end
For many federal employees on a standard Monday-to-Friday schedule, a holiday falling on Saturday is observed on the preceding Friday and a holiday falling on Sunday on the following Monday. OPM also explains arrangements for other schedules. Use the published date applicable to your purpose rather than treating this common pattern as a universal rule for every worker. The same celebration can therefore matter on a different date from the one printed on a cultural calendar.
Year boundaries deserve particular attention. A New Year holiday falling on Saturday can produce a federal observed date in December of the preceding calendar year. A calendar file organized by event date needs to include that December date in the earlier year’s file. When arranging a final year-end appointment, examine the neighboring year as well. Do not assume a heading marked “January” contains every observed closure connected with the New Year celebration.
Separate bank processing from federal office availability
A federal office closure and the processing timetable for a specific financial transaction are different questions. Consult the bank, payment network or provider involved in your transfer. Ask about the currency, submission cutoff and any recipient-side dependency. A website accepting a payment instruction does not establish that every later review or settlement step will be completed that day. Use the provider’s actual status when telling a customer that payment has been made.
For an overseas team, also identify who must approve the transaction before it reaches the provider. If that colleague is absent, a transfer can miss a cutoff on an otherwise normal working day. Arrange a delegate or complete the approval earlier. Keep the confirmation, due date and remaining dependencies together so that a covering colleague can distinguish a provider delay from an unfinished task within your own business.
Plan Thanksgiving and year-end appointments directly
Around Thanksgiving or year-end, an employer may announce additional closures or staff leave beyond the federal holiday itself. Record those notices as company arrangements rather than adding them to the federal holiday count. Ask whether the named person you need will be working and whether their department can complete the requested service. An open reception desk is not evidence that a specialist appointment or approval will be available.
If a trip depends on several appointments, confirm all essential meetings before committing to a fixed itinerary. Compare the addresses and local times, allow for the transfers involved and save cancellation conditions. This page does not forecast ticket prices, airport queues or hotel availability. Those operational details need current provider information. A workable alternative appointment date is more useful than assuming a business will make an exception because a visitor has already booked a flight.
Use local time for cross-country handovers
A U.S. date is not a single instant across the country. For a timed submission or collection, record the time zone stated by the receiving organization. When working with an Asian team, the calendar date on the sender’s screen can differ from the date at the destination. Write the deadline in the receiver’s local time and confirm the corresponding time for the person responsible for sending the material.
All-day holiday events should remain distinct from timed meetings. Do not convert a public holiday into a midnight meeting and then assume the shifted date in another time zone is the correct closure date. Keep the country label visible in a shared calendar. A holiday is a local-date reference; a conference call needs a specific time. Treating them as separate kinds of events prevents avoidable confusion around international approvals.
Verify the last operational step
For deliveries, the most useful question is often whether the receiving dock or named recipient can accept the item. Ask the carrier and receiver about the shipment you are arranging. A holiday label cannot establish that a parcel will be collected, cleared, delivered or signed for. If a facility requires an appointment, obtain the booking reference and confirm who can resolve a missed delivery before dispatch.
Before using this calendar for an important plan, check the year, the observed-date notes and the scope of the source. Compare any updated download with the earlier file and keep public dates separate from your own meetings. The analysis below describes entries in the federal reference, not the total time every American employee has off. Where a decision involves employment rights, a legal deadline or a contract, consult the authority or professional responsible for that specific issue rather than treating the date table as a ruling.
